Sue Cooper

Hello! I’m Sue

All too often we find ourselves repeating the same behaviors, pursuing the same types of relationships, and feeling frustrated with the same emotional experiences. We get stuck in a cycle that often leaves us feeling lost, disconnected, misunderstood, and undervalued. These patterns can cause us to desperately ask, “What is wrong with me?”

While navigating my own recovery journey, I felt called to walk beside others struggling to find identity, purpose, and meaning in their lives. Through my own experience with addiction, codependency, and abuse recovery, I have developed the belief that healing is experienced through confronting negative beliefs about ourselves and replacing behaviors that no longer serve our needs. This approach works well for substance use disorder, relationship issues, narcissistic abuse recovery, domestic violence, disordered eating, codependency, and other personal struggles.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor, I have experience working with individuals battling for freedom from their own damaging thinking patterns, emotional burdens, and trauma. Trauma is a term that has come to mean different things to different people. To me, trauma refers to experiences that happened to us, that we did not want to happen, that we had no control over. My training in Somatic Experiencing® has given me the tools to work holistically with individuals who have experienced traumas throughout their lives.

In looking at the holistic person, stress management and women’s health has become a huge focus in my work. Traumas and stress impact overall health which includes sleep, weight gain, digestive issues, fatigue, and mental health. For medical issues outside my scope, I have connected with community partners to work on your physical health alongside our work together on your clinical wellbeing.

As your therapist, I am determined to create a space for you to discover your own authenticity through a safe and transparent clinical relationship. I am confident that we can systematically explore the foundation of your struggles and develop strategies to alleviate your distress. I would consider it an honor to support you on this journey.

About Me

In addition to being a therapist, I am a Colorado native. I love to hike with my dog, explore the mountains, and try new restaurants. When I have the opportunity, I also love to travel! Scuba diving has become an obsession of mine, and as a result, I have become passionate about advocating for the protection of our oceans. When I’m not in the mountains or the ocean, I enjoy being an aunt to my nieces and nephews, reading mystery novels, and watching Survivor with my family.

My Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Colorado State University in 2010
  • Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from Adams State University in 2019
