Hello! I’m Ashley Townsend
As a board-certified music therapist and licensed clinical social worker specializing in trauma, I offer humanistic and empowerment-based support to my clients. Seeking therapeutic support can be challenging and even daunting, and it is my goal to provide a safe and adaptable environment so that you can begin the process of individual and/or group therapy with assurance and ease.
I am here to walk beside you, believe and honor your story, and assist you in moving through pain and finding self-love and acceptance.
I have experience working with children, teens, and adults with complex trauma. I have had the privilege of learning from clinicians in recovery as well as clients facing addiction, children and teens in foster care, survivors of intimate partner violence and human trafficking.
My background in crisis intervention has illuminated the interconnectedness and intersectionality of multiple traumas. And I understand that for most people, the therapeutic environment is a place where we need to experience acceptance for many interwoven losses, fears, and challenges. Compounding traumas of racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and various forms of discrimination and othering deepen the wound and are often not met with the attention and validation they deserve. As a blind clinician, I am committed to acknowledging oppression, marginalization, and privilege. In the exploration of your many facets through creative arts and talk therapies, it is my hope that you can rewrite your story and grant yourself the grace you deserve.
In working with survivors of abuse, abandonment, loss, and seemingly insurmountable setbacks–I have come to a deep appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit. I am here to listen, to believe you, and to affirm that you are worthy of love and respect.
In group settings, I enjoy facilitating a space for people to find their voices and trust that they will be heard and supported. Although relationships are often a source of hurt, they can also be an oasis of healing. Finding true community allows you to restore trust inside and outside of yourself. And in that safe space, you can grow in empathy and understanding, and know that you are not alone.
One of my favorite quotes is:
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly–but rarely admit to the changes it has gone through to achieve such beauty.” Maya Angelou
I hope you can truly begin to see yourself. And you do not have to do it alone.
Whatever your reasons may be for seeking therapeutic support, I am ready to meet you where you are with caring and sensitivity.
